Undergraduates are obsessed with high grades since most companies consider grades as a major barometer of diligence. Within the framework of relative evaluation, students should compete with each other and hardly be driven by pure intellectual curiosity. It is such a shame that test scores are only used as a means of getting a decent job. Recently, some university courses in Korea are supposed to be graded using absolute evaluation systems. It can be a meaningful step, but the key point is the social pressure that mainly focuses on higher employment rates of university graduates. Unless the university drifts between the halls of academe and training centers, simply changing the grading systems would be meaningless.
