About 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students have started their campus life at Chonnam National University (CNU) by taking part in the entrance ceremony held at the Minjumaru on February 28 on Gwangju campus. 136 students were given excellence entrance awards for top academic success by President Jeong Byung-seok. He welcomed all the students and delivered a speech explaining that CNU would foster the right person to be a light in the world; a creative person to challenge new things based on their specialty, an emotional person to develop ethical value and cultural sensibility, and a together person to take steps toward a better world by communicating with the community. “Like zelkova which is the tree that represents CNU, I hope CNU students become people who provide a lot of shade for many people to rest in summer and take slow but steady steps and focus on their long term goals, and then they can become a winner in life,” he added. Lim Jeong-hwa (Freshman, Faculty of Business Administration) said she wanted to be involved in various activities on-and-off campus. She added that “I will do everything enthusiastically including studying and participating in various activities in my college life so that I will not regret these four years that have been given to me.”
