The residents of Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province voted for the Book of the Year for the 2019 Gwangju and Jeonnam Read and Talk (GJRT) program from April 22 to May 17. The Book Selection Committee was comprised of 17 members and included professors, journalists and librarians, they chose five books to be the final candidates on April 30: Jeong Hye-shin’s “You Are Right”, Jeong Chan-ju’s “The Back of Buddhist Monk Beopjeong”, Yoo Hyun-joon’s “Where Do We Live?”, Jeong Jae-seung’s “Twelve Footprints”, and Song Su-jin’s “The Philosophy of Persons in Weaker Positions”. The 2019 Book of the Year will be announced at the ceremony celebrating the 69th anniversary of Chonnam National University (CNU) on June 7. Choi Eun-woo (Junior, Dept. of English Language and Literature) said, “I knew about these good books by participating in the vote. GJRT is a beneficial program for students, since students can get access to books in diverse fields.” This year marks the seventh year for the GJRT hosted by the CNU Library. The community reading project has provided chances for CNU students and local residents to read one book and share their opinions.
