전남대, 2019 English Essay Contest 시상식 개최

    Four undergraduate and graduate students at Chonnam National University won awards in the 2019 English Essay Contest. The awards ceremony was held in the office of the Dean of Student Affairs on the second floor of the University Administration building at 4 p.m. on November 11. The Winners are Gim Tah-hoon (First Year, Law School),  Lee Nan-ju (Freshman, Department of Veterinary Medicine), Lee Hwa-hyun (Senior, Department of Physics), and Nong Thi Nghi Phuong (First Year, Non-Governmental Organizations, Graduate Schools).
   The Chonnam Tribune hosted the competition on October 12 in order to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the foundation of CNU and the 51st anniversary of the Chonnam Tribune which published its first issue on July 15, 1968. The competition was open to undergraduate and graduate students studying at universities located in Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeollanam-do Province. International students who speak English as a second language were also allowed to join the competition.
    56 international and Korean students from universities located in the regions registered for the contest from September 16 to October 9. An essay topic was announced on the Tribune website at 2 p.m. on October 12. The applicants completed their essay within four hours and submitted it through email by 6 p.m. that day. The topic was as follows: “As part of efforts to halt the spread of African swine fever, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has taken steps to cull all pigs in regions such as Paju, Yeoncheon, and Gimpo. However, the culling method has prompted animal rights groups to criticize the government’s preventative measure, claiming that it violates animal protection laws. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The government should stop the precautionary culling of animals, and seek more effective and humane methods to prevent spread of infectious disease. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.”
