전남대, 5·18민주화운동 40주년 기념식 개최

    CNU held a commemorative ceremony for the May 18 Democratization Movement’s 40th anniversary at Yongbong Hall on May 18. About 200 people including CNU faculty, alumni, staff and students attended the ceremony co-hosted by The CNU May 18 Institute and the CNU Association of Alumni for Democracy (CAAD). In particular, Catholic priest Song Ki-in, mentor of President Moon Jae-in and a doyen of the pro-democracy movement in Busan and Gyeongnam regions, attended the event and drew attention. CNU President Jeong Byung-seok mentioned at the ceremony, "We must find out the truth, record the day and commemorate it with our memory." CNU Alumni Association President Park Seung-hyun and CAAD President Choi Chul also delivered their commemorative messages. The event finished with CNU Faculty Council President Kim Do-hyung reading the declaration “To All the Intellectuals of the Republic of Korea” that CNU professors issued on May 14, 1980, and people singing the song “March for the Beloved”.
