Chonnam National University (CNU) held the 2020 degree awards ceremony online on August 26. Because of COVID-19, CNU posted the ceremony on its official website and YouTube channel instead of having an in-person graduation ceremony. In total 1,826 graduates were awarded degrees including 1,229 Bachelor’s, 458 Master’s and 139 Doctoral degrees. Starting with congratulatory messages from CNU students, parents and alumni, the video also reported the current state of the college. Furthermore, there was a celebratory speech by the CNU president, an introduction to the graduates who had excellent academic achievements and people were also singing the university song. CNU President Jung Sungtaek said, “I hope you endeavor to make your life happy and do your ethical duties as a member of our society. Please keep youth’s passion in your mind and challenge yourself to do new things by overcoming comfort and familiarity." He also appealed to local residents and the public to embrace the graduates and utilize their power suitably for the nation and for society.

One of the graduates Lee Sung-a (Department of English Language and Literature) said, “Time goes by very quickly. I have graduated late compared to my friends, but I completed my college life with no regrets because I endeavored to enhance my capabilities through joining various projects and activities. I will study more after having a break. It was a memorable moment when I celebrated my graduation with friends, wearing a graduation gown on campus.“ A day later, on August 27, the General Student Council encouraged students to pay attention to the degree conferment ceremony by uploading a celebratory video on YouTube.
