A webtoon is a medium that can be easily accessed by all age groups. Therefore, it is inevitable for readers to be sensitive about the appropriateness of webcomic content. Freedom of expression must be guaranteed. However, if the authors received criticism that their webcomics crossed the line when it comes to freedom of expression, they must consider the public’s ethical standards and give feedback. Considering the influence webtoon authors can have on society, webtoon companies should enforce ethical and social education to their authors. Additionally, they should provide guidelines that can minimize controversy about the content and authors should listen carefully to readers’ opinions. These measures could help the webtoon market become more wholesome.
