On June 8, Chonnam National University (CNU) marked the 71st anniversary of its founding with a celebration ceremony at the University Auditorium, Minjumaru. University members including CNU President, CNU Alumni Association President, faculty, alumni, staff and students as well as the guests of honors attended the commemoration ceremony. The ceremony started with a brief report about CNU’s current state and vision.

At the ceremony, CNU offered the Hugwang Academic Award to the late Kim Chin-kyun, honorary professor of Seoul National University. Honorable awards also were bestowed to CNU alumni, faculty and staff members, including the Honorary Yongbong Grand Award, the Yongbong Academic Award, the Outstanding Researcher Award, the Faculty and Staff Excellence Award, and the Long-term Service Award.

CNU President Jung Sungtaek said in his commemorative speech, “Science and technology are rapidly advancing and a lot of knowledge is being created. With advances in technology, more challenges would occur in front of us. But you can find the solutions to your challenging problems at the university. We will keep educating students based on the CNU motto; Truth, Creativity, and Service as always. Everyone here would be a companion to join CNU’s 100-year journey not only to celebrate the 71st anniversary of our school this year. Thank you so much for coming here and congratulate CNU’s 71st founding anniversary.”
