On June 9, Chonnam National University (CNU) commemorated the 69th anniversary of its founding with an online anniversary ceremony streamed on YouTube from a link of its website. The virtual ceremony started with the brief report about CNU’s current states and vision. At the ceremony, the CNU presented various prizes such as the Hugwang Academic Award, the Honorary Yongbong Grand Awards, the Yongbong Academic Awards, and the Proud Alumni Awards. CNU President Jung Sungtaek said in his commemorative speech, “CNU has taken the lead in protecting the country with the values of democracy, human rights, and peace. We have also evolved into an eco-campus on which science, technology, culture, and arts coexist together. Now, we have to prepare for the next 100 years of CNU. We will continue to pursue truth, challenge to create new culture, and provide knowledge service to the development of the community. It is time to make CNU the place to pursue truth and justice as a proud and free CNU.” The event ended up with celebration speeches from CNU Alumni Association President, government and political leaders, including Korean Prime Minister, Democratic Party Leader, and Gwangju Mayor, and singing the university song.
